The Butterfly, as the island is often called due to the two wings that seem to unfold on the blue flower of the sea to suggest the nectar, owes its current name to the wind Favonio, while in ancient times it was called Aegusa. In recent times its history is linked to the Florio family who planted a tonnara there, whose imposing bulk still dominates the landscape, near the port. And it is precisely tuna fishing, with the slaughter (traditional, but cruel method of killing tuna left caged in the death chamber), which in the past was the main activity of the inhabitants of the island. Favignana has an area of about 20 sq km and is crossed along the western "wing" by the Montagna Grossa which, almost despite its name, only reaches 302 m in altitude. The eastern part, on the other hand, is flatter and houses the main inhabited center. The coast, very indented, leaves room here and there for sandy beaches.

Levanzo is a special island, Whoever stops there must love the sea deeply, but must also love the land, must have the taste of living nature, walking or riding a mule in the paths that climb towards the mountain, he must love people, he must know how to be with people, without any prejudice, know how to listen to them and know how to tell, but with discretion.

We all live together, islanders and foreigners, outside, on the only road that crosses the town overlooking Cala Dogana. They divide the days, the daily things, chat, joke, tell stories, or stay silent.

The island of Levanzo has a very wild nature, there are no roadways and the only way to get around it is on foot or by bicycle. The town is located in the town around the port and has about 220 residents.

For the rest, the island is a real natural oasis where the presence of man is very discreet, in perfect harmony with the beauty and peace of the landscape. Having little time available, we just have to start walking in search of some interesting coves.

Departure from Trapani at 9:30 am and return scheduled for approximately 5:30 pm.
